Load sizes at a glance
Use this as a rough guide when you ask for a quote — or just send photos and we'll work it out for you.
Single item
A sofa, mattress, fridge or wardrobe
Quarter load
A few bulky items or 10–15 bags
Half load
A small room, garden tidy or shed
Three-quarter load
A garage or 1-bed flat clearance
Full load
A large room, renovation or small house
Heavy waste (soil, rubble, tiles) reaches the van's weight limit before it's full, so it's priced by weight as well as space.
What affects the price
Volume
The biggest factor. A few bags and a chair is a small load; a garage or a full house can be one or more full van loads.
Type of waste
Sofas and armchairs (POPs rules), fridges and freezers (refrigerant recovery), mattresses, plasterboard, soil and rubble all carry higher disposal costs than general mixed waste.
Weight
Heavy waste such as rubble, soil and tiles fills the van's weight limit before its space, so it's priced accordingly.
Access and time
Third-floor flats without a lift, long carries from the van or restricted parking add time. Ground-floor items next to the drive are quickest.
Ways to keep the cost down
- Combine everything into one collection rather than several
- Separate heavy waste (rubble, soil) from lighter bulky items
- Donate or sell good-condition furniture with fire labels first
- Send clear photos so the quote is accurate first time
- Have items ready and accessible on the day
How does a private collection compare with the council?
For one to three eligible items you can put outside, the council's bulky waste service is often the cheapest route — at the time of writing Watford Borough Council listed £57 for up to three items, excluding electricals and upholstered items (check watford.gov.uk for current prices). For mixed loads, excluded items, items inside the property or a deadline, a private collection is usually the practical choice.
Why very cheap quotes are a warning sign
Licensed disposal has real costs. Prices far below everyone else's can mean the waste never reaches a licensed site — and householders can be fined if their rubbish is fly-tipped. Always check a collector's waste carrier registration.

Pricing questions
Do you charge per item or per load?
Larger jobs are priced by volume — how much of the van the waste fills — with adjustments for heavy or specially-handled items. Single-item collections are priced individually.
Do you charge more for same-day or out-of-hours collections?
We operate 24/7, and your quote reflects the job, the timing and the waste involved. The full price is always confirmed before we start.
Is labour included?
Yes. Loading, carrying from inside the property and disposal are all included in the quote.
Will the price change on the day?
Only if there's significantly more, or different, waste than described. If so we'll tell you before loading it, and you can decide.
How can I get the most accurate quote?
Send photos of everything that's going, mention where it is (upstairs, loft, garden), and tell us about access such as stairs or parking.
